Streptococcus pneumoniae is one of the leading causes of bacteremia (S. pneumoniae in the blood), bacterial meningitis, pneumonia, and middle ear infections and continues to be a major global public health concern. Serious pneumococcal disease may occur at any age. Adults of advanced age, with certain existing medical conditions, or weakened immune systems, are at increased risk.

Eligible participants must be:

  • Generally healthy adults, including those with stable preexisting diseases
  • Men or women, 60 through 64 years of age, who have had no previous pneumococcal vaccination.
  • Available for the entire duration of the study

There will be no costs involved for eligible patients. Reasonable reimbursement will be provided for travel expenses.
