Binge Eating Facts:

  • Binge Eating
    • A psychiatric disorder – the condition is defined by someone who binges at least once a week for 3 months, accompanied by feelings of loss of control and distress.*
    • Believed to be one of the most common eating disorders in the U.S., affecting more than 6 million Americans at some point in their lives.**
    • Although bulimia and anorexia affect mostly women, men are five times more likely to have BED than other eating disorders.
  • Current BED treatments:
    • Antidepressents
    • Anti-seizure drugs

“Binge eating can be serious and it is hard to detect because people feel ashamed about the behavior,” said Dr. Jason Miller, the principal investigator on Clinical Trials of Texas’ binge eating study. “It’s not just an affliction for women, either, because men – especially in middle age – can be struck by binge eating disorder.”

Dr. Miller, a psychiatrist, is available (and experienced) for comment for TV audience either on site or in your studio. We can also shoot B-roll in our research facility here at Clinical Trials of Texas, Inc. where we are doing studies.
